Materials:
Mainly Colorado yule marble and Indiana limestone. The 36 columns around the memorial represent the 36 states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death. The names of the 48 states that composed the Union at the time of the monument's completion are carved on the outer attic walls. Murals depicting Lincoln's principles were painted by Jules Guerin. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address are inscribed on the interior walls.
